Additional Support & Counselling

At King James, our Student Support Team is extensive, and all of our Student Support Workers have Level 3 Safeguarding & Child Protection Training. However, we also work with a wide range of external agencies, to signpost and provide additional support when this is needed. This could be for a variety of reasons.

Some of the external support agencies attend King James and provide interventions on site. We can also support students and parents to other organisations, make referrals when appropriate and work with a wide range of external partners.

Some of the external support agencies we work with are:

- EWEL Team (Emotional Wellbeing & Effective Learning)

- One Point

- Early Help assessment and support – EH provide a range of support strategies which can be beneficial to parents and families. We work closely with Early Help colleagues to signpost parents to opportunities which would benefit them.

- CAMHS – we work closely with CAMHS and

- NHS Piece of Mind Team (formerly Mental Health Support Team) provide support with anxiety and a range of other issues.

- Our FISO (Financial Inclusion Support Officer), Julia Waterhouse, provides advice and support in welfare benefit eligibility checks, and support in applying for welfare benefits. Julia can also signpost and support with debt management, fuel poverty, grants, educational entitlements, and budgeting. Many of our parents have already benefitted through the advice and support.

- School Counselling Service – our school counsellor attends the academy each week and meets with students, who are referred via the Student Support & Safeguarding Team. This provides an opportunity for students to work closely with counsellors to discuss and address issues in and out of school.

- Sheila Coates Foundation – have worked closely with the Sheila Coates Foundation, to redevelop our sensory room (SEND) and Academy Garden.

- SWD Inclusion Panel (BIP) – we work closely with other partners and schools, to offer intervention strategies for our students.

Students and parents who would like to know more about any of these support opportunities should contact the Student Support Team in the first instance.
