Behaviour Support

Behaviour Support & 7 Standards

We are proud that pupils at King James behave extremely well. Our expectations for how we expect students to conduct themselves are clear, and are based on the ‘7 Standards’. These are our minimum expectations of all students. These key principles are:

Rewards & Recognition

We have a Rewards and Recognition Strategy, which includes a range of ways in which we recognise the positive achievements and efforts of our young people. The key strategies we use, whilst not exhaustive, are:

Supporting Improved Behaviour

We also have a range of strategies to ensure that pupils behave well, and when negative behaviour occurs we act quickly to bring about improvement. The basis of this is the collaborative work we do with parents – working together to support pupils and implement strategies to bring about improvement. Above all, we consider the individual context of each pupil and our understanding of these needs allows us to offer individualised support, which our young people deserve.

Key strategies we use to support positive behaviour include:

  • Frequent meetings with all Heads of Year to review behaviour and determine actions needed
  • Specialist educational and support sessions (1:1 and group-based), for example, on anger management, remaining focused in lessons and building positive relationships with others.
  • Referrals to our Inclusion Centre, which is a consequence for poor behaviour and an opportunity to reflect on this, so that further issues do not occur.
  • ‘Time Out’ cards and in-lesson support.

If you would like to discuss your child’s behaviour – positive or negative – please speak to your child’s Head of Year in the first instance. Full details of our behaviour support strategies and how we address behavioural issues in school can be found in the Academy Behaviour Policy, and other related policies, on the academy website.
