Department Information

Business Studies is a well-established and successful department within the Academy. In Sixth Form, students can choose the BTEC National programme, or AS/A2 programmes, meaning that Vocational and Academic options are available to all students.

The department has a history of success, both academically and in preparing students for life in the workplace. Teachers within the department provide innovative teaching and learning experiences which motivate and inspire students.

All businesses need enterprising employees to drive their organisations forward, to have ideas and initiatives to instigate growth, and to ensure that businesses survive in this fast-changing world. Enterprise is a key government focus, and is set to form an important part of the UK’s global economic status, both now and in the future. Enterprise skills provide a fantastic progression pathway into a number of roles in an organisation, and are transferable into all businesses.

Key Stage 5

There are two options for learners who choose to study Business in Sixth Form. The first is a natural progression from the BTEC Award studied in Key Stage 4 which is the BTEC National Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A-Level) or the BTEC National Diploma (equivalent to 2 A-Levels) in Business. This qualification is a combination of coursework and external assessment and provides a vocational perspective of business. The topics listed below are studied across Year 12 and Year 13.

The second option is to study AQA AS Business which is 100% examination and provides students with a comprehensive understanding of business in a range of contexts.
