PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) education, prepares young people for life's challenges and opportunities. The subject gives young people the opportunity to explore their lifelong goals, values and aspirations. Through our PSHE curriculum we help students prepare for the opportunities, challenges, life decisions and responsibilities that may come their way.
We understand that students with a good quality of health and wellbeing can achieve better academically and meet their goals and aspirations in life.
PSHE is divided into three topic areas, Living in the Wider World, Health and Well Being and Relationships and Sex Education. At King James I Academy, we use "Jigsaw" Scheme of Work as our PSHE Curriculum. The scheme is divided into six sections; Being in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me.
The PSHE teaching team are committed to providing high quality, age appropriate relationship and sex education for all pupils. Our lessons will cover the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, relationships, sex, human sexuality and sexual health. Our aim is to teach our young people the information and values they will need in order to take responsibility for their sexual health and have safe and fulfilling relationships. Our PSHE team is supported in the delivery of lessons by the School Nursing Service and King James I Academy Safeguarding team.
An overview of the information taught is detailed below.

Further information is available by reading our PSHE and RSE Policy which can be found in the Policies section of this website or by contacting Mrs M Barnfield
