Curriculum Intent in Personal Development and Wellbeing:

The PSHE programme at King James I Academy gives pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.

During our students’ timetabled Personal Development and Wellbeing lesson we take a multi-disciplined approach to promoting health and wellbeing, living in the wider world and healthy relationships.

The Personal Development and Wellbeingprogramme at King James Academy promotes a holistic approach to Personal Development and Wellbeing, bringing together Personal, Social, and Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills, mental health and resilience development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. We are very proud to complement our in-class learning with outside speakers and visitors to help our students connect their learning to the real world, for example The Butterwick Hospice, If You Care Share, St John’s Ambulance. We believe that the PHSE programme will complement additional efforts within the academy to support students’ personal development, which will help them to navigate an ever-changing society both as young adults, and later in life. From making responsible decisions about alcohol to succeeding in their first job, PSHE education helps pupils to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up. Whilst everyone faces difficult situations in their lives, we hope that these subjects can support young people to develop resilience, to know how and when to ask for help, and to know where to access support.
