As a result of the pandemic, thousands of young people across the UK have experienced various levels of disruption to their learning, but at King James this has been kept to a minimum thanks to our Chromebook scheme.

We have made it our priority to make sure that all of our students have access to the technology they need to succeed in their learning; this means that no child is disadvantaged whatever the future holds. We are proud to confirm that 100% of our students in Years 7-11 now have access to a Chromebook. Sixth Form students can also purchase a Chromebook at a subsidised price or loan one from the Common Room for use in school.

Many subjects now incorporate Chromebooks as standard; teachers deliver lessons in classrooms as normal, however students are able to complete and submit assignments online and receive feedback from their teachers digitally. Students can also email their teachers direct and access a host of resources to help with home study including pre-recorded presentations. This is particularly important for students who are absent from school.

Access to digital technology has many advantages; it has opened the door to many new opportunities for learning and our teachers have taken part in a host of after school training sessions to develop their own skills and explore those which would be most beneficial for their subject.

Teachers now incorporate interactive learning tools such as Quizlet and Kahoot, and use Google Classroom to set assignments and share resources. Class Charts allows teachers to award points for good work and behaviour, and both students and parents can access this independently to check progress and read comments.

Students have also been registered for free access to GCSEPod, an exciting new online resource for revision with a proven track record for improving achievement by one grade for regular users.
