Bishop Auckland Town Council’s Youth Awards is designed to give recognition to outstanding young people in Bishop Auckland. This year, we are proud to announce that our students won five awards!

At just 13 years old, King James I Academy student, Layla V is already making her mark in the world of professional football. Not only has she spent the last two seasons playing for Sunderland AFC Womens’ Academy Under 14s team, but she has also attended two England ‘invite-only’ camps for potential lionesses.

Year 7 student, Stacey-Jo R is celebrating winning her latest trophy as she represented Shildon Amateur Boxing club in a bout against Easington.

Year 8 student, Ben T has won a bronze medal in the 100m breast stroke at a swimming competition held at the Neptune Centre, Middlesbrough.

In glorious July sunshine, an excellent time was had by competitors and spectators alike at our Year Group Sports Day events.

Talented young footballer, Finley H in Year 7, has received a host of awards at Belmont United's Presentation Evening.

Sports fans have returned from the annual PE and Sport Department football-themed trip to Amsterdam.

A group of young athletes in Years 8, 9 and 10 have taken part in the Athletics District Trials, which were held at Shildon Athletics Track.

Last term, our Year 10 football team won the League Cup Final following a hard-fought match against Durham Johnston.
