This week, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 have been taking part in a drop-down day in Maths to learn about Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace. Best known as Ada Lovelace, this English Mathematician and writer is well known for her work on Charles Babbage’s mechanical general-purpose computer.
Students carried out research and created fact files about who she was and the impact she has had as a woman in STEM. Ada Lovelace is considered to be the first ever computer programmer, and as such, she is an inspiration for young women around the world.
We celebrate this day so that our students can learn more about Mathematicians and the impact they have on the world, and so that students can appreciate the links between Maths and other subjects such as computing.
