Lewis Lumley-Young, Teaching Assistant at King James I Academy, has won the Bishop Auckland College Teaching Assistant Apprentice of the Year Award 2024.

A total of 90 apprentices were whittled down by judges to just five winners and Lewis was presented with the award in the Teaching Assistant category. As part of his apprenticeship, Lewis has been working at King James I Academy on an 18-month placement with pupils in all year groups who have a variety of additional needs. Rachel Coy, Assistant Special Educational Needs Coordinator at King James said, “Lewis has been an amazing apprentice and it has been a pleasure to support him. He has so much patience and enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in helping young people, so it is no surprise that he is incredibly popular with our students. We are delighted that we can now employ Lewis on a full-time basis as a fully qualified Teaching Assistant.”
