We have an extensive Primary Outreach programme at King James with sessions that give youngsters from local primary schools the opportunity to develop new skills by trying something a little different. This year, we have introduced an exciting new session in film production with our Media Studies Department.

Year 5 students from St Andrew’s Primary School were the first to attend the session after school, and using green screen technology in our new film studio, they created episode one of ‘The Good News Show’, which features positive stories from around the world. With help from Media Teacher, Miss Davies, and Sixth Form Media Mentors, Bobbie and Cai, pupils first learned how green screen technology works in a fun practical session in the studio. They then delegated the various roles, with Oliver taking on the responsibility of newsreader and Haroon, Emily and Belle becoming news reporters.

Pupils did an excellent job of recording the footage for their personal news segment, before sourcing background footage to enhance their script, and editing it together using professional software, Adobe Premiere Pro. With added sound effects and music, the final result was outstanding.
