Anti-Bullying

At King James I Academy, we take the issue of bullying very seriously and we use a number of ways to prevent it happening in the first place and we take decisive action when bullying occurs. As in any school, bullying takes place but we are proud to say that incidents at King James are few. We work tirelessly to identify issues before they escalate and use restorative approaches to ensure that issues which are identified do not reoccur. We are proud that we are accredited by the Diana Award and the BIG Anti-Bullying Team, in recognition of the work we do to prevent and effectively deal with bullying issues.

If you are a student at King James and are being bullied, please tell us about it. If you are a parent, carer or another stakeholder, please contact the school so that we can deal with these issues.

If you are being bullied, you can report the problem by:

- Speaking to a Student Support Worker

- Speaking to any other member of staff- your Form Tutor, Head of Year or anyone else you feel comfortable talking to

- Completing a self-referral slip and placing this in to one of the black letter boxes around school

- Asking your parents or a friend to report the problem on your behalf

- Speak to one of our trained Anti-Bullying Mentors, who are always available in the Cabin at breaks and lunches. 

Remember- talk to someone, or write it down, but ALWAYS report it!

Our Anti-Bullying team consists of Student Support Worker, Senior Leaders and a Governor. The team meets every half term, to review cases of bullying, and to continually improve the ways in which we prevent and deal with bullying issues. We regularly ask our students to complete anti-bullying surveys, so that we know more about bullying and how we can improve the way in which we deal with bullying issues.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

We have a group of students who volunteer as 'Anti-Bullying Ambassadors'. These students, from all year groups across the academy, work on a rota so that students can go and talk to other students about any concerns they have during any break or lunchtime. Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are trained by the Diana Award and play an active role in listening to students, reporting problems to staff and giving their peers advice and guidance. They undertake refresher training every year to make sure that they do the best job possible.
