Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset at King James I Academy

Growth Mindset is concept developed through the work of Carol Dweck. The mindset influences our self-concept. Students have beliefs about their own intelligence which impact on their behaviours as a learner.

Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset

Those with a growth mindset will persist in the face of obstacles. People with this mindset will be dedicated to learning and demonstrate resilience in challenging situations.

Those with a fixed mindset believe that their intelligence is fixed and cannot be developed over time through persistence. They believe that talents are fixed and require very little development

At King James we have been working on developing a growth mindset in our students. Areas we have focused on in our teaching include:

  • Developing student’s independent skills
  • Perseverance
  • Effort
  • Ownership
  • Confidence
