At King James I Academy, keeping our children safe online is extremely important to us. We work hard to ensure that pupils understand how to use the internet, social media, and digital technologies safely, responsibly, and confidently.
We are proud to have achieved the National Online Safety Award Accreditation through National College, which recognises our strong approach to online safety. To keep families informed, we send fortnightly updates to pupils and fortnightly online safety newsletters to parents, sharing advice, guidance, and current issues affecting young people online.
Online safety is taught regularly through our computing lessons, and key messages are reinforced through assemblies, Safer Internet Day activities, and digital safety posters displayed around the school, offering tips and sources of support. We have also run an AI focus group to help pupils understand new technologies and how to use them safely and responsibly.
We provide additional opportunities for pupils to deepen their understanding of online safety. Our Year 7 Digital Safety Day (26th November 2025), delivered in partnership with Durham Police, included interactive escape rooms and themed workshops during lessons. Year 8 pupils also took part in the CyberFirst Girls Competition on 3rd December 2025, encouraging interest in cybersecurity and digital careers.
We have completed the application process to become an accredited CyberFirst School, further strengthening our commitment to digital safety and education.
By working closely with parents and carers, we aim to create a safe, supportive digital environment where all pupils can thrive both in and out of school.
