Student Leadership and Academy Council

At King James I Academy, we are proud to have a strong and committed Student Leadership Team, made up of our Head Student and Deputy Head Students. Students apply and campaign for these roles before being elected by their peers, ensuring that student leadership is both democratic and representative.

Our Academy Council sits at the heart of the Student Leadership Team and plays a vital role within the Academy. The Council is made up of representatives from all year groups and meets regularly to discuss how the Academy can continue to improve for students. They also organise and support a range of charity fundraising events, helping to make a positive impact both within school and the wider community.

Working closely with the Academy Council are our Ambassador Groups, which were established with the support of student leaders. Each Ambassador Group is led by a senior student and a deputy and includes students from across all year groups. The current Ambassador Groups include:

-           Community

-           Personal Development and Careers

-           Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

-           Sport and Healthy Lifestyle

-           Anti-Bullying

-           STEM

-           Mental Health

Each group typically undertakes one or two projects each year, focusing on issues that matter most to our students. Through their involvement, students develop valuable leadership, communication and teamwork skills while helping to shape positive change across the Academy.

Student voice is strong at King James I Academy and is both heard and valued. In addition to regular Academy Council meetings, students are encouraged to share their views through regular student voice questionnaires. Feedback is shared with the Senior Leadership Team and acted upon wherever possible.

Our Student Leadership Team works hard to promote positive messages, encourage inclusivity and help create a welcoming, respectful and supportive environment within the school and the wider community.
