At King James I Academy, British Values are embedded across the curriculum and at the heart of our school culture, ensuring students are prepared to become responsible, respectful and active citizens within modern Britain.
Democracy is promoted through a strong Student Voice. Students are encouraged to contribute to decision-making through the Academy Council, Student Leadership Team and Ambassador Groups, which represent all year groups. Students regularly share their views through student voice questionnaires, with feedback shared with senior leaders and acted upon where possible.
The rule of law is reinforced through clear behaviour expectations, our 7 standards, consistent routines and restorative approaches. Students are taught to understand the importance of rules, rights and responsibilities through assemblies, tutor time, PSHE and the wider curriculum, helping them to recognise how laws protect individuals and communities.
Individual liberty is encouraged by providing students with opportunities to make informed choices, develop independence and express themselves safely. Personal development lessons, enrichment activities and educational visits support students to build confidence, resilience and self-awareness.
Mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths, cultures and beliefs are central to life at King James I Academy. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is actively promoted through the curriculum, assemblies and our dedicated EDI Ambassador Group, which leads initiatives to celebrate diversity, challenge discrimination and promote understanding across the school community.
The Academy places strong emphasis on community engagement, encouraging students to contribute positively beyond the classroom. Through charity fundraising, community projects and partnerships with local organisations, students develop a sense of social responsibility and understand the importance of giving back to their local and wider communities.
Through these opportunities, King James I Academy ensures that British Values are not only taught but lived, creating an inclusive, respectful and supportive environment where every student feels valued and empowered.
