Pupils from Oakley Cross, St. John's Primary, Thornhill Primary and Victoria Lane Academy are currently enjoying a variety of activities in our primary outreach sessions.

Following the popularity and success of our previous Duke of Edinburgh programmes, over 40 students in Years 9 and 10 have signed up to complete the Bronze Award and some students have also progressed to Silver.

Students in Years 7 and 8 have enjoyed an inspiring live interactive theatre experience called 'Smashed', which raises awareness about the dangers of underage drinking. Sessions were delivered at King James by Mia, Jack and Isaac from the team at Collingwood Learning.

Key Stage 3 students have taken part in a fancy dress fun run around our 4G pitch to raise money for the forthcoming PE trip to Holland.

Students in Years 7 and 8 have been taking part in a study skills carousel to learn how to apply different revision techniques to all subjects.

Year 11 student, Charlie M was delighted to win the first prize in our fundraising Easter egg raffle, which was drawn in the final week of term. Containing 30 easter eggs and a giant bar of chocolate, travelling home on the Academy mini-bus was out of the question, so he had to arrange alternative transport!

Year 9 Art students have been working on a creative project with Durham University this half term called 'Weaving Friendships'.

As part of an exciting learning experience in Computer Science, students have been introduced to Bernard the robotic dog, resident computerised canine at the University of Sunderland.

Students in Years 7-10 have attended a series of educational workshops delivered by the Foundation of Light, the official charity of Sunderland AFC.

In June, 30 of our Year 9 students will be travelling to Normandy for a Modern Foreign Languages trip.
