A group of 11 Key Stage 3 students have attended the very first Women of the World Festival at the Gala Theatre in Durham.

At the event, students enjoyed a variety of activities to celebrate the incredible women, girls and non-binary people of the North East, with speakers including Jill Scott, Emma Dabiri and Ashley James.

On WOW Schools Day, young people from across the region took part in an inspiring day of talks, interactive sessions and creative workshops designed to spark new ideas and big conversations. Students were able to explore everything from politics to pop culture and art through personal stories of resilience, performances and workshops. There were a number of thought-provoking moments, with surprise music, dance and theatre performances.

The day started with a number of inspirational talks from women and a rap performance from Kay Greyson. Students then took part in a consent workshop with Changing Relations and finished the day doing an afro beats dance workshop where they learned moves from all over the world.
