Year 7 History students at King James I Academy have taken part in an exciting hands-on lesson about the Roman Empire with a variety of replica helmets and shields to examine.
Students were able to try on the helmets and carry the shields to experience for themselves just how heavy these items would be for Roman soldiers in battle. The items were brought in to school by one of the Academy’s Learning Support Assistants, William Johnson.
History Teacher, Mrs Paylor said, “In History we try to incorporate as many physical sources as possible into lessons to increase engagement through hands-on historical learning. Students will soon be visiting Auckland Castle to look at Norman and Medieval artefacts.
