Students in our Media and Photography departments have enjoyed an educational trip to the beautiful city of Barcelona to take in the stunning architecture and experience the vibrant Spanish culture.

During the four-night visit to the city, the group of 15 students stayed in the popular Gothic Quarter, just a minute's walk from 'The Plaça Reial' main square and the iconic 'Las Ramblas' boulevard. The itinerary included a visit to 'La Boqueria' food market, where Photography students were able to gather images for their coursework portfolio, the Cathedral of Barcelona, which is the seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona, and the 77-acre 'Parc de la Ciutadella', where students took out rowing boats on the lake. They also walked to 'Marina Port Vell' and enjoyed an afternoon relaxing at San Sebastian Beach.

Of course, no trip to Barcelona would be complete without a visit to the famous 'Sagrada Familia'. The renowned architect, Antoni Gaudí, worked on this stunning building from 1883 until his death in 1926, and it is the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world, with an estimated completion date of 2026.

The group also enjoyed some excellent evening meals, including tapas, which was a first-time experience for many, and marvelled at the variety of street performers who entertain tourists throughout the city.
