As part of Year 7’s Geography unit on Antarctica, students have been designing flags for the UK Polar Network Antarctica Day Flag Project 2020.

Over 150 schools from eight different countries took part in this project, with the winning flags from each school being sent to the researchers and scientists in Antarctica.

The winning flag from King James was designed by Abi R. Her flag, shown here, was photographed at Hope Point, which is near the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) King Edward Point Research Station. King Edward Point is a marine and fisheries research station owned by the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and operated by British Antarctic Survey. This facility provides critical research to support the management of the marine protected area and the sustainable fisheries in this important location in the Southern Ocean.
