This week. former King James student, the Mayor of Bishop Auckland, Cllr. Lee Brownson officially open the newly-refurbished and renamed Agnew Building.
The refurbishment of the listed Middle School building, which is over 100 years old, marks the completion of phase 2 of our multi-million pound development programme.
As a much-loved landmark in the town, we felt it appropriate to mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony, witnessed by staff and students both past and present. The Mayor joined the Chair of Governors, Mrs Elizabeth Varley, who is herself a former pupil and former teacher at King James, and Head Teacher, Mr Nick Grieveson, to cut the ribbon across the entrance that he once used on a daily basis.
Our trio of buildings, the Agnew Building, the Lockey Building and the Rawe Building all took their names from former staff and students who were nominated by staff and governors at the Academy.
