Many potential Year 12 students came to our Sixth Form Induction Day event to experience half hour taster sessions in a range of subjects, and to look into Sixth Form life.

This was a great opportunity for students to ask experienced teachers and current Sixth Formers about courses, managing work load and social life at King James. The event also allowed visitors to take a tour of the facilities and see the new equipment in departments such as Art, Music and Media. The Induction Day attracted a large number of students from outside the Academy who came to find out about the variety of subjects that the Sixth Form offers, and the informal atmosphere that students find so appealing.

Alongside this, visitors were both astonished and amazed by the magic tricks performed by the renowned magician, Paul Lytton in the Sixth Form Common Room. Paul is known for performing for celebrities such as Michael Buble, Ashley Roberts and Paloma Faith; he has even performed for Princes William and Harry!

Callum J, who will be starting Sixth Form in September this year was at the event. He said, “The magician shocked everyone in the room with his tricks, and created an entertaining atmosphere that everyone was talking about.”

Other services from outside the school were also there to offer advice, including ‘FutureMe’, a collaborative outreach programme which provides information about further education, and the NCS (National Citizenship Service) which has benefitted many of our former students in terms of life experience.

Mr Shearer, our Head of Sixth Form said, “I am delighted that so many young people came to our Open Day and am sure that our new Year 12s will be an excellent year group and one that will enjoy great success. I look forward to meeting them again on results day and officially welcoming them in September.”
