Fourteen students in Years 9-13 have recently returned from an extraordinary Maths-based educational seminar in Disneyland Paris.

During the three night trip, students explored how Mathematics and Engineering are involved in the design and daily operation of the theme park. First they considered the financial implications of balancing the huge expenditure and income of Disney before proceeding to investigate how Maths and Engineering is combined in the design of roller coasters, with a specific focus on trigonometry and calculus. Of course there was also time to see the parades and enjoy the rides!

The trip was a huge success and the department are already planning a return visit to the annual Half Term seminar in 2016, possibly accompanied by other departments that could attend subject-specific seminars which run at the same time.
