A group of community-minded Sixth Form students have donated £946.40 to The Angel Trust, following an unusual fundraising event which saw them take on a 12-hour gaming marathon in the school’s Dining Hall from 8am until 8pm.

The group decided to combine their love of the trading card game, ‘Magic: The Gathering’, which is a strategic fantasy battle game using personalised card decks, with the opportunity to raise money through sponsorship, a Just Giving page and on-the-day donations.

The original idea was the brainchild of 18-year-old Nathan Crammond, however his friends and fellow fans of the game were quick to get on board, and all agreed that money raised should benefit the Angel Trust, who support local individuals and families in need through a number of different initiatives.

The money was gratefully received by the charity who will be able to use it to stock the food bank and community pantry, to make festive food hampers and buy toys and gifts for local children and teenagers, and to support teenagers living in the town’s homeless centre.

This is just one of the Academy’s fundraising campaigns for this academic year; since September the school has raised £470 for Macmillan Cancer Care and over £800 for Children in Need.
