Our Year 8 STEM Team spent two days in the capital.

Five of our Year 8 boys have recently travelled to London to take part in the National Final of the "Solutions for the Planet' competition, which was one of the many learning activities that made up last year's extensive STEM programme.

Accompanied by our STEM Co-ordinators, Miss Ford and Mrs Lennon, The group travelled by train and spent two days in the capital city, where they enjoyed a tour of Westminster Palace and met local MP, Helen Goodman before presenting their idea for a Biomass battery powered by algae. Although they did not win the competition, the boys enjoyed the experience immensely and returned feeling proud of their achievement in reaching the final.

For all of the boys, this trip was the first time they had stayed away from home, so the experience of being in a hotel overnight was an excellent way to build confidence and independence. They were also able to spend some time in Hyde Park, travel on the London Underground and enjoy a meal at 'Ask' Italian restaurant, all of which offered a new life experience.
