Year 8 students Callum, Leon and Christopher have collected their free World Book Day books.

This week we are celebrating World Book Day 2022 by giving out free books in our Academy Library to all students in Key Stage 3, along with a £1.00 book token, which can be redeemed for a second free book at Tesco, Newton Aycliffe. Tokens will also be given to all students in Key Stage 4.

World Book Day was created by UNESCO in 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. Research has shown that reading for pleasure is the biggest indicator of a child’s future success, more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. Spending just 10 minutes a day reading can make a crucial difference to achievement and it’s fun. World Book Day wants to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, develop a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings.

Each year at King James we celebrate World Book Day by allowing our students to choose from a selection of books for free, and encouraging them to take their token to their local bookseller or supermarket to swap it for one of the twelve World Book Day books this year. They can also choose to use it to get £1 off any full price book.

Books and book tokens are available from Mr Wheatley in our Library.
