Year 10 students have taken part in the Tunnock's Teacake Challenge, which is designed to develop skills in creative decoration and eye-catching presentation; this will help them to reach their full potential in the practical element of their Hospitality and Catering exam.

The Tunnock's Teacake Challenge began in 2018 when Deborah Prigg, Food Teacher and member of the Food Teachers Centre community, came up with the idea for a lesson on presentation. Since then it has become an annual national competition supported by the Tunnock's company.

Mrs Lamb, Director of Learning for Food and Nutrition, decided to incorporate the activity into lessons to give Year 10s an opportunity to end the term in a fun and creative way. Students were provided with a Tunnock's teacake and given access to a wide range of ingredients from chocolate and fresh fruit to biscuits and whipped cream; they also had access to the crockery store where they could select an appropriate serving dish. Results were outstanding and could easily have been included in a restaurant dessert menu.
