Students in Years 7 and 8 who are members of our Carnegie Book Club meet every Wednesday to read the titles nominated for the Carnegie Medal.

In the last academic year, students read and reviewed all of the shortlist, contributing to the Carnegie website with their reviews. At the end of term the group gathered in the Library to watch a livestream of the awards ceremony with snacks and drinks to reward students for their contribution. The group allows students to explore a wide range of genres and writing styles, and join in guided discussions with Mr Wheatley about the books, leading to vibrant debates about the titles and their content. The wide range of content in the titles allows students to explore their own preferences and express their feelings for certain genres, whilst developing their litracy skills, vocabulary and their love of reading.
