There is nothing more beautiful and inspirational than nature, as our Art and Photography students discovered on a recent educational trip to Butterfly World.

During the visit, Art students were paired up with Photography students in order to create visual studies of the thousands of butterflies at the venue. It was the ideal opportunity for Year 10 Photography students to learn how to use Digital SLR cameras and for Art students to develop their observational and creative skills using a variety of materials and techniques. Students were also given a talk by a specialist and watched a video.

Miss Welch, our Director of Learning for Art and Photography said: "There is so much beauty in nature; it offers a rich source of inspiration for artists and we wanted to show our students that. Butterflies offer exquisite examples of colour, pattern and symmetry. Of course, sketching and photographing moving objects presents an additional challenge for artists, but our students handled this very well and returned to school with some excellent results."
