Students took part in a variety of creative activities to celebrate World Book Day.

Every year at King James, our Academy Librarian joins forces with our English Department to organise a host of themed activities to celebrate World Book Day. This special day encourages young people to appreciate the benefits of reading for pleasure.

This year, all students in Key Stage 3 received a free book as part of the much-anticipated global event, alongside a book token which they could spend on a book of their choice outside of school. As part of the celebrations, all departments created lessons with a focus on reading, from reading about cells and evolution in Science, to famous artists in Art and Photography. In timetabled Reading and English lessons, pupils were able to enjoy the book they had been given in some quiet reading time, then share their opinions and thoughts on the characters and story.

There were also a number of creative activities to link to World Book Day; across the academy, students made bookmarks, created posters to promote their particular title and used their imagination to draw their interpretation of the main character.

As an extension of our commitment to promoting reading for pleasure at King James, we will also soon be hosting our first ever Book Fair from 20th-22nd March 2024.
