Organised by Miss Talbot, 14 of our Year 7 and 8 students have enjoyed a trip to Sunderland University as a reward for their effort and achievement in Computer Science lessons throughout the year.

They were also accompanied by Sixth Former, Anthony C who went along as part of his work experience.

On the trip, students went on a tour around the university to explore its facilities; this included a talk in one of the lecture rooms about what university entails, as well as discussing the courses on offer. This strengthened knowledge and raised aspirations, whilst giving our younger students an insight into what the future could hold. It is good for youngsters to know that this is one of their options, and that they can choose this route into a career following their studies and Sixth Form.

In a game development session, students got to use specialist Computer Science equipment, which gave them the opportunity to write up some of their own code, whilst also having access to the virtual reality facilities, such as the headsets and chair. This was great for expanding their knowledge of the subject in a fun and practical way, and it’s safe to say that the students had an amazing time with this.

The university also made our school our very own game, where a character can run and jump over obstacles around an animated King James site, which students loved playing. To end the day, a Q and A session was held for any further questions that students had about all that they had discussed, and had been shown, throughout the day.
