Students were also able to relax and enjoy a buffet lunch in the Common Room as part of the event.

The school year is not over yet for our current Year 11s, as they delve into our informative Sixth Form Induction Day, to get a taster of what it would be like to study A’ Levels at King James.

This event was highly successful and well attended, as around 60 new Year 12s came in to gain an insight of what it would it would be like to come here to our Sixth Form, and with 43 sessions available throughout the day, our students couldn’t help but appreciate the many options that they had available to them. This included sessions on subjects across their current Key Stage 4 curriculum, that they could choose to further develop at Key Stage 5, but also new subjects such as Human Biology, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, and Performing Arts, which went down as a treat with all of our students, or maybe that was just the buffet lunch!

Students who are interested in the Football Academy got to take part in a training session with our current footballers, to see if being a part of our school football team would interest them next year. This gave our new Year 12s the opportunity to play with their possible future teammates, and with others who share a passion for the sport; we hope to see them all lead our school to victory next year.

In addition to subject-related sessions, our Director of Learning for Art, Miss Ackers, led our first LGBTQ meeting, and we are delighted to say that this was well attended by students who came together to speak about the profile of LGBTQ people and how they can raise the profile of diversity across the academy. We are confident that through these meetings and the success of this first one, we can represent the LGBTQ community in the light that they deserve across our school.

To finalise the day, students were able to confirm their subject choices for September and are ready to enrol on the 24th of August, which is also GCSE results day. With smiles all round, it’s safe to say that our Sixth Form Induction Day was a big success with one student saying, “I can’t wait to start Sixth Form. I love English and am really looking forward to the new challenge and learning at a higher level.” We can’t wait to have you in Year 12, roll on September!
