Key stage 3 students in our Modern Foreign Languages Department (MFL) enjoy a variety of learning experiences which help them develop skills in speaking, reading and writing both French and Spanish.

One of the most popular methods of learning is our Year 7 and 8 pen pal programme, which links students at King James with those of the same age in the town of Gap, which is situated in the Alps in the South of France.

Students send letters to each other throughout the academic year, written in the language of their pen pal; this enables rapid development in their ability to communicate effectively in another language. Our students write about their lives at school and home, alongside their hobbies and life in the UK, and are excited to receive similar news from their French friends.
