Personal Guidance

Personal Guidance at King James I Academy

At King James I Academy, personal guidance is a key part of our careers programme and ensures that every student receives tailored, high-quality support when making important decisions about their future.

Our Careers Adviser

Our Careers Adviser is Anne Goddard, who is based in the school. This means students have regular access to a qualified, impartial professional who knows the Academy well and works closely with staff to support individual needs.

Who receives personal guidance?

Personal guidance is available to all students, with structured support at key stages:

  • Year 10 and Year 11
All students in Years 10 and 11 will receive a scheduled one-to-one careers interview.
Parents and carers will be informed by text and are invited to attend the interview with their child.
  • Year 9
All Year 9 students are invited to have a careers interview to support them with their GCSE options choices, helping them understand how subjects link to future pathways.
  • Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13)
Every Wednesday is a drop-in day for sixth form students, allowing them to access careers guidance flexibly alongside their studies.

Open access for all students

Any student at King James I Academy can request a careers interview at any point, regardless of year group. Appointments will be arranged as needed, and parents and carers are always welcome to attend.

Support for SEND students

Careers guidance is an integral part of our SEND reviews. Our Careers Adviser works closely with the SENDCo and key staff to ensure that guidance is inclusive, personalised, and aligned with each student’s needs, strengths, and aspirations.
