What a fantastic evening we had at our annual Year 6 Open Evening event this year, with 833 visitors joining us in school!
The evening began with a welcome and presentation in the Main Hall, where families heard about the many opportunities for learning and personal development from our Headteacher, Mr Whitehead. Visitors then made their way around the school, talking to staff and students and taking part in a wide range of fun activities, all designed to give them a taste of secondary school life at King James.
Youngsters were able to try dissection in Biology and experiments in Chemistry and Physics, and there was an exciting 'Murder Mystery' activity in Drama with live student actors. In Health & Social Care, children took part in CPR training and got a taste of our Mini Medics programme, and in Food & Cookery, visitors were able to taste dishes cooked fresh by Year 11 GCSE Food students. Children enjoyed trampolining, badminton and football in PE, and they also starred in a filmmaking activity using green screen technology in Media Studies. There were also activities in Geography, Maths, History, English, Business, RE, Computing and English!
Alongside all of this, parents and children were able to sample items from our lunch menu in the Dining Hall and find out about King James transport and the many extra-curricular activities we offer at lunch time and after school.
We hope that everyone had a great time but for those who weren't able to attend the event, it's not too late. If you would like to arrange an meeting and tour after school please call Main Reception on 01388 603388.
