We understand that the transition from primary to secondary school can be worrying for some youngsters, and for that reason we have an extensive programme of activities that are specifically designed to ensure pupils are confident and looking forward to joining us at King James from day one.
Students who will be joining King James in September attend three 'No Wasted Weeks' sessions, which involve full days in school taking part in Maths, English, Science and a creative subject such as Drama, Art or Music. With support from our Sixth Formers, pupils quickly become familiar with the academy layout and timetable, alongside the procedure at break and lunchtime.
In Drama, pupils looked at building confidence and resilience, and using discussion to break down barriers. They considered how body language, facial expression and vocal tone, including volume, can communicate a strong message. Not only were students extremely enthusiastic, but they performed with great style and made plenty of new friends.
