Students were fascinated by the stories of disgusting dinner parties!

Students in Mr Wheatley’s Comic Book Club have visited Auckland Castle to hear some of the interesting but gruesome stories linked to our local area. Bishop Auckland has a strange and fascinating history, and our comic book creators were able to take inspiration from them.

The group of 15 students from Years 7-9 were inspired by the elaborate interior of the palace, which gave them some excellent ideas for settings in their comics. They were also fascinated by the stories of the Bishops who survived the Tudors and the disgusting dinner parties that would have taken place there, and many went on to use these stories to develop their own concepts for a plot.

Our Comic Book Club is just one of the many extra-curricular activities which take place in our Library both at lunch time and after school. For creative students, young writers and existing comic book fans, this particular club provides the opportunity to use their imagination to develop exciting characters and a plot, alongside building drawing skills as they create their own product. The club runs during early lunch every Tuesday, and during late lunch every Friday and all are welcome.
