Science teachers made lessons even more engaging by dressing up as their favourite scientists.

This week, our Science Department has been celebrating British Science Week with a variety of fun themed activities in lessons across all year groups.

British Science Week is an annual event with a different theme each year; this year's theme was 'Adapt and Change'. Using this theme, the Science Department offered our students a range of opportunities and experiences based on the question, "How could we colonise Mars?". Our programme consisted of events and extracurricular activities which pupils would not usually have access to, such as a star gazing night in school, an observatory visit, and a planetarium experience.

During lessons, our own students and many from local primary schools, continued the theme by looking at how we might need to adapt and change to survive on another planet. Activities included investigating our health to see if we match NASA astronaut requirements, learning about the science of rockets, and even space industry careers.  A' Level Physics students were inspired by attending Durham University Global Week where they experienced world-class, cutting edge, scientific research taking place.  On the final day, Science teachers dressed up as Science legends such as Archimedes, Marie Curie, Jane Goodall and Sir Isaac Newton to increase scientific curiosity.
