A group of students in Year 9 have taken part in a trip to G. Bolam Foods Ltd in Sedgefield to learn about the many career options in the food industry.
Students have been working with Mr Butters in a fortnightly Aim Higher lesson designed to give them an insight into apprenticeships and university courses. The aim is to help students begin career planning at an early stage.
During the visit, the group browsed the selection of goods on sale at the popular in-store shop and they were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the bakery to see the specialist equipment used in bulk production. In a Q&A session with the on-site bakers, students learned about the qualifications needed such as safe storage and food hygiene certificates, and they also watched a demonstration before making their own pizza to take home.
