Year 9 students in Design & Technology have been learning about the importance of force, ergonomics and anthropometrics in furniture production.
The term ergonomics refers to the relationship between people and the products they use and anthropometric data is used to help design products to meet ergonomic needs. When creating furniture, the designer must always keep in mind the person that the product is designed for and it's daily purpose, whether that be domestic or commercial.
In a practical lesson, students were challenged to design and produce a chair made from simple cardboard which they then tested using a series of weights to assess the strength of the structure.
