Our Academy Librarian, Mr Wheatley has signed up to a project ran by The National Literacy Trust designed to give students the opportunity to explore comics and graphic novels.

The project is aimed at young people up to 14 years old and the intention is to promote a love of reading by encouraging readers to try the dynamic reading format of graphic novels. Graphic novels are a type of book that tells a story using a combination of images and words, often in a comic-strip format so they are extremely visual and appealing to young readers. They can be fiction or non-fiction, and they are available in many genres including horror, science fiction, romance and mystery.

The National Literacy Trust are working in partnership with Amazon to deliver this project to schools across the UK, and thanks to this, we were selected to receive a substantial delivery of free graphic novels. Combined with our existing novels, the donation will allow us to create a well-stocked section in our Library dedicated to this genre.

There will now be a new lunchtime club every Friday in the library for Years 7 and 8 to explore and discuss this fascinating artform.
