All Students must fill in this registration form every morning when remote learning BEFORE the following times:

  • Year 8 & Year 10: 9:50am
  • Year 11: 9:40am
  • Sixth Form: 9:30am
  • Please note you must be logged in to your academy Google account to access this form. For example, on your Chromebook.

Virtual Assemblies - Every Monday - 10am.

Assemblies start on Monday 1st of February at 10am. Join your Tutor Group Google Classroom for a Live Assembly. This will replace your normal 10am lesson. Make sure you attend to support you further with your online learning and important information from your tutor. Tutors are looking forward to seeing you on Monday.

Multi Sports Results 2019/2020

Sportshall Athletics

Year 7 and 8 teams competed in the sports hall athletics competition at Barrington school on Thursday 13th February. They competed against St. Johns, Staindrop, Barrington and Parkside. They competed in events such as speed hop, standing long jump and 4 lap relays. Teams performed very well; Year 8 boys  and year 7 girls finished 3rd, Year 7 boys finished 2nd and the year 8 girls won their competition and qualify for the level 3 games to be held at Maiden Castle on the 20th March. Well done to all competitors but especially well done to Konnie Grace Sowerby, Ella Robson, Katherine Smith, Katie Preston, Katie Simpson and Amelia Dickinson.

Basketball

King James I Academy competed against other local schools including Staindrop and Parkside at Bishop Barrington school on Wednesday 5th February. King James finished third in the competition with fantastic performances from Bradley Hughes and Brianna Thexton.

Cross-country

King James participated in the South West Durham cross country championships held at Barnard Castle on Thursday 17th October. King James entered both Junior and Inter teams for both boys and girls. Team results were good but there were some fantastic individual results. Brooks sowerby, Jake Dobinson, Kian Dixon, Jack Spencer and Tilly Robinson have all qualified have the district cross country championship. Well Done this is a fantastic achievement.

5-a-side Football

Year 7 boys competed in a 5-a-side tournament. The boys are Mason Wright, Bradley Hughes, Jack Lowis, James Chadwick, Jayden Bowes and Ross Grant. In the group stage they drew 1-1 with Sedgefield, beat Teesdale 3-0 and lost to Durham Johnston 5-1. They qualified for the semi-finals where they lost 2-1 to St Johns. Great effort boys!!

Girls Football

Yr 7 boys played in a 5-a-side tournament held at King James on 6th December 2018. They played a number of matches against Durham Johnson and Ferryhill and finished in third position narrowly missing out on the next round. Well done to the team. Yr 7 girls played in a 5-a-side tournament held at King James on Thursday 13th December. They played a number of fixtures against St Johns and Durham Johnson but failed to qualify for the next round but well done to all competitors.

Sportshall Athletics

They competed in events such as speed hop, standing long jump and 4 lap relays. Teams performed very well with the best result coming from Year 7 girls who finished 3rd.

Table Tennis

King James I Academy took part in a table tennis competition at Bishop Barrington on Thursday 28th February. Year 8 and year 10 represented the under- 13 and under 15 students.  Well done to all competitors but especially to Dylan Howe who won against his opponent.

Cricket

Year 8 took part in a cricket competition at Bishop Auckland cricket club on Wednesday 15th May against other local schools. 8 players from year 8 played in a girl’s competition and the same in a separate boy’s competition. Well done to all girls but a special mention to Sophie McGee who batted and bowled exceptionally. Boys played 5 other schools and represented the academy really well. Well done to all the boys but a special mention to Jac Richardson who played extremely well.

Athletics

Yr 10 took part in the athletics competition at Eastbourne sports complex at Darlington. Students competed in a number of events including shot putt, high jump and 100m. There were a number of strong performances but special mention goes to Louis Tones who won discus, Dylan Nicholson who won Javelin and Dylan Howe who won shot. They will now go onto compete at a county competition. Well Done to all competitors.

Mountain Biking

A team of 4 boys and 4 girls participated in a mountain biking competition at Teesdale School on Tuesday 18th June. John from British Cycling coached the students through gear changes and tactics of racing and they participated in a number of races including a relay and an endurance event. King James won the competition and have now earned their place in the level 3 finals to be held at Maiden Castle on Friday 5th July. At Maiden Castle King James girls came 2nd and the boys finished 4th. A special mention to Konnie Grace Sowerby who finished 3rd out of all of the girls attending the final and Harley Jones who finished 6th. Well done to the whole team.

Athletics

A team of 7 boys and 7 girls from year 7 participated in a triangular athletics tournament at St. Johns school. They participated in events such as shot putt, long jump and the medley relay for points against St Johns and Barrington. The boys finished 3rd in their competition and the girls were joint winners well done to all participants.

Rounders

Year 8 participated in a rounders tournament at Staindrop and competed against Parkside and Staindrop. King James beat Staindrop and drew against Parkside meanin g they won the competition overall. They also participated in a game of magic rounders which King Jmaes also won. Well Done to all participants and congratulations to the whole team.

 

 

 

2017-2018

Cross-Country

King James took part in the year 7 and 8 cross country championships at Teesdale on Tuesday 10th October. Teams of 8 competed for year 7 girls, year 7 boys, year 8 girls and year 8 boys. All students participated with drive and commitment and represented the academy excellently. Our best results came from Tilly Robinson finishing 3rd in the year 7 girls race, Brooks Sowerby finished 8th in the Year 7 boys race and Sonny Sowerby finished 7th  in the year 8 boys race. Each qualifying for county races held later this season. These are excellent results for King James. Well done to all competitors.

Badminton

8 students; James Bundock, Steven Ruddick, Shang Jie Cai and Josh Spencer attended the U16 tees valley partnership competition in Badminton and Jermaine Ruddick, Charlie Richardson, Daniel Misterzak and Kyle Blacklock competed in the U14 competition on Wednesday 8th November at Wolsingham comprehensive and competed against other local schools. After playing a number of singles and doubles matches King James finished second. This is a great result and the points contribute to the small schools competition total.

Trampolining

Leon Davies in year 11 competed for King James I Academy in the regional trampoline championships this weekend, 25th November 2017. Leon competed against other schools from the region and won by 3 clear points which is very significant in trampoline scoring.  Leon now goes onto the national championships held later in the year.

Table Tennis

Teams from King James competed against St. Johns, Barrington, Staindrop, Teesdale, Parkside and performed admirably. Stand out players were Jake Dobinson for the U-13 team winning in a number of fixtures and Sean Catchpole for the U-14 team who also performed at a high standard. Well done to all students who participated.

Trampolining

Year 11 student Leon Davies competed in the BSGA National schools trampoline Finals on 24th March. Leon showed excellent maturity and outstanding technique as well as an extremely high level of difficulty competing against people up to 4 years older than him. He finished 3rd which is an excellent achievement and gives him experience to help him try to achieve even higher next year.

Cricket

Year 7/8 took part in a cricket competition at Bishop Auckland cricket club on Thursday 17th May against other local schools. 8 players from year 7 and 8 played in a girl’s competition and the same in a separate boy’s competition.  The girls competed against other schools, in the local area and finished 4th. Well done to all girls but a special mention to Tia Cooke and Emillie Johnson who batted and bowled exceptionally. Boys played 5 other schools and represented the academy really well. Well done to all the boys but a special mention to Rhys Powton who played extremely well.

Football

Our sixth form team took part in the league cup final at Gateshead Stadium on Wednesday 9th May against Gateshead College. Having gone in at half time 2-0 down, they came out in the second half fighting. Steven Dawson scored just after half time then Ryan Paterson equalized 15 minutes later. Jack Mortimer gave us the lead with 10 minutes to go. They fought hard in the last minutes securing the victory 3-2 to King James. Well Done lads!!

Yr 7 boys played in a 5-a-side tournament held at King James on 24th November 2017. They played a number of matches against Durham Johnson and Ferryhill and qualified for the next round held later this year. Well done to the team and good luck for the next set of fixtures. They then attended the finals played at Parkside and unfortunately lost in the Final to St Johns.

Netball 2017/18

The netball season has started and King James has made a decent start to the season. Matches have taken place both home and away for the year 10 team with mixed results. Year 7 have been attending training and are starting to improve in both skills and tactics ready for their matches in January. If you are interested in joining the team just turn up for practise on a Tuesday afterschool and take part in training.

Trampoline National Finals July 2017

Leon Davies in Year 10 competed in the national trampoline finals held in Telford on July 9th 2017. Leon performed well in both routines. He managed podium position and bagged a Silver medal. The club, family, friends and school are very proud of Leon's continued performance and dedication. If he maintains this high standard of effort and achievements, he may get spotted for the Olympics in the future years!

Cross Country October 2017

King James took part in the year 7 and 8 cross country championships at Teesdale on Tuesday 10th October. Teams of 8 competed for year 7 girls, year 7 boys, year 8 girls and year 8 boys. All students participated with drive and commitment and represented the academy excellently. 2016-2017

Sportshall Athletics Competition 2017

On Thursday 16th February 2017 King James I Academy entered the Wear Valley & Teesdale Sportshall Athletics Competition. The teams comprised of Year 7 and Year 8 boys and girls. All teams completed the competition in events such as spped hop, standing long jump, vertical jump, shot put and relay races. The attitude and effort from all pupils was amazing and we had great results from the Year 7 boys who came 3rd and the Year 8 boys who won the event. The Year 8 boys will now go on to represent the area at the Level 3 School Games. The Year 8 boys team competed in the level 3 games in sports hall athletics on 24th March having qualified after winning the last competition. The boys achieved some excellent positions in various events such as 8 lap paraluf and vertical jump. They finished in 2nd place overall which is a fantastic achievement. Well Done to all competitors!

 

 

 

Yr 7 5-a-side Football

Once again we competed in the BASFA year 7 5-a-side competition that was held at King James I Academy. The boys played 4 group games, winning 3 and drawing 1 to qualify for the final which was also held at King James I Academy. In the finals we were narrowly beaten in the semi-finals in extra time. The boys were fantastic in their attitude and effort in all the games.

 

Yr 7 Basketball Competition

King James I Academy competed against a range of other schools from the area in the Yr 7 Basketball Competition held at King James. The boys performed very well and finished 2nd. Well done boys.

 

 

Cross Country Championships 2016

On Tuesday 11th October 2016 King James I Academy entered boys and girls teams into the Yr 7 and 8 competitions. Each team raced against schools from the region at Teesdale Comprehension School over a gruleing Cross Country track. Everyone single pupil from King James gave their all as everyone counted in the final placings. We had some excellent individual positions with Kieron Grafton finishing 11th in the year 7 boys race. In the year 8 girls race Molly Robinson and Laura Dobson finished 15th and 16th. We had some great performances from the year 8 boys as Jermaine Ruddick came 16th, Dylan Nicholson 15th, Charlie Richardson 9th and Kyle Blacklock 4th. With these results and others from the rest of the year 8 boys it meant that they won the whole team Championships.

Wear Valley Cricket Competition

On Friday 13th May 2016 King James entered in the Boys and Girls Wear Valley Cricket Competition at Bishop Auckland Cricket Club. 7 schools from the region entered the competition to win entry into the County Competition. Both the boys and girls teams topped their groups to get through to the semi finals. The boys team played against Staindrop and suffered a narrow defeat by 1 run. The girls won their semi final against Parkside to play Teesdale in the final. The boys then played in a 3rd/4th play playoff with Wolsingham, which saw them win to finish in third place. The girls played really well in the final but eventually lost to Teesdale. Both teams represented the Academy fantastically throughout the competition - well done to all involved.

 

Yr 11 Football Championship

 

King James I Academy hosted the Year 11 Football Championships on the 4G over 2 weeks on Wednesday 25th November and Wednesday 2nd December. Teams from throughout the area including Parkside, Staindrop, Ferryhill and Bishop Barrington took part.  On Wednesday 25th November King James won both of their group games, beating Staindrop 1-0 and Barrington 2-0, with goalkeeper Andrew Coulson not conceding a single goal. This meant that we returned for the semi finals on Wednesday 2nd December. Despite a very good performance unfortunately we were beaten in the semi finals by Parkside 2-0, Jordan Wintersgill seeing a thunderous effort crash back off the crossbar whilst the score was still 1-0. Parkside went on to beat Ferryhill 4-1 in the final. King James quickly overcame the disappointment of not reaching the final by defeating Barrington and clinching 3rd place. Overall it was a wonderful tournament, played in a great spirit, with staff and students from the other schools thanking us for hosting.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cricket

We recently competed in the Wear Valley Cricket Competition held at Crook Cricket Club. The teams involved were Yr 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls, Yr 8 Boys and Yr 8 Girls. They all performed well and were a credit to the school. Prior to the tournament they had training from coached from Durham Cricket Club and Bishop Auckland Cricket Club.
