Level 2 Fusion Programme

Department Information

This one year course is designed for students who are not quite level 3 ready, to help prepare for their next steps, which may be a level 3 qualification, an apprenticeship or employment.


How is the course taught?

Students will study for either Resit GCSE English and / or Maths OR levels 1 and 2 Functional English and / or Maths.

Alongside this, there will be the option of studying for one of the following Level 2 Technical Certificates:          

  • Health & Social Care;
  • Sports Studies; 
  • Business Admin;
  • Retail Operations;
  • or Hospitality & Catering*.

Students will also take a one day per week work placement which links to their chosen Technical Certificate and to their area of interest.

What areas are covered by the course?

GCSE Resit or Functional English and Maths, one of the chosen Technical Certificates, plus work placement.


How is the course assessed?

  • GCSE / Functional English and Maths are assessed through examination.
  • The Technical Certificates are assessed by a combination of coursework units and examined units.
  • A work booklet is expected for completion of the work placement.

Career Opportunities

The programme allows for students to move onto level 3 study in either the same subject as their Technical Certificate, or into another area if desired. The work placement element also supports progression into an apprenticeship or directly into employment.
