On November 11th we held our annual Remembrance Service in school to pay tribute to the many thousands of people who have lost their lives in war.

At 11.00am our students and staff took part in a two-minute silence to mark Armistice Day, which marks the day that World War I ended in 1918. Our Headteacher, Mr Grieveson read a poignant poem to honour the fallen before the silence began; this was followed by the traditional playing of ‘The Last Post’ by Year 9 Music student, Charlotte R.

Our Chair of Governors, Mrs Elizabeth Varley laid a wreath at our Academy Memorial before Year 7 students and Year 11 Student Leaders paid their respects by laying wooden crosses upon the memorial. Year 10 student, Abbie H and Year 11 student Megan T, both pictured here, were also proud to attend the service wearing their Army Cadet uniform, alongside our highly decorated Transport Manager, Paul Lawton, who has joined our Academy team following retirement from the Royal Navy after 21 years of service.

The Remembrance Service also offered an opportunity for students to learn about conflict around the world both past and present, and consider the devastating impact of war upon our global society in the hope that they strive to change the future by learning from the past.
