King James band, "Defying Luna' are making their mark in the Metalcore/Post-hardcore music scene and building a strong local following with their unique mix of covers and original material. Last month, supported by Sunderland-based band "Catalyst Crush', they performed at King James in a gig organised by Year 13 Music student, Clyde in conjunction with our Music department.

The current line-up, which consists of Jay, Charles, Simon and Daniel, who are all in Years 11 and 12, have been together less than eight months, yet they have already played a number of successful North East gigs, established themselves on Facebook and Youtube to promote their music, and plan to record their debut EP soon.

Elizabeth Houghton, our Director of Learning for Music is extremely proud of the band, although she admits that Metalcore is not necessarily her preferred music genre! "We are an innovative department that embraces and celebrates all genres of music and Defying Luna are an excellent example of Metalcore," she said. "The boys are extremely talented and dedicated, rehearsing and composing in school two nights every week. This genre is massively popular among young people and it is a style that Defying Luna do exceptionally well. Clyde did a great job of organising the gig too - it shows how students from different year groups can work together with great success."
