King James I Academy student, Charlotte has sacrificed her waist length locks in aid of the "Little Princess Trust', a charity that provides free real hair wigs for boys and girls suffering hair loss as a result of cancer treatment and other conditions such as alopecia.

16 year old Charlotte, who has just entered Sixth Form at King James, discovered the charity online and, after reading about the excellent work they do, decided that it was time for a new look. "I have had waist length hair for as long as I can remember," she said, "but I wanted to do something that could make a real difference to a child's life and donating my hair was the perfect opportunity. I won't deny that I shed a tear when the cut was made and I saw the resulting ponytail, but just knowing that a child will benefit from it soon makes it all worthwhile. It's been such a drastic change that people hardly recognize me now but everyone says I look much more grown up and it's actually given me more confidence, which is a great way to start Sixth Form."
