Year 8 student, Kate M has celebrated success in a Freestyle Dance Competition at Whitby, claiming first place in three categories.

Kate, who currently trains at both In-sync Dance Academy and Xtreme Dance Fuzion, has been dancing since she was just four years old. She said, “I started by learning ballet and tap but I changed dance school when I was around seven years old because I wanted to learn new things and try freestyle and street dance too. I found I loved both, so four years ago I began entering competitions. I don’t really have a favourite dance style as they are all so different; I just love dancing.”

At the Street House Dance Championships in Peterlee, Kate competed in a number of street dance categories. In both the team and pair events, she competed in the under 14 intermediate/advanced category and celebrated second place, and in the solo category, she claimed third. In the high energy ‘battle’ event, which sees dancers gradually eliminated, she made it down to the last eight competitors; this is an outstanding achievement as battles are open to dancers of all ages and levels of experience.
