Students take on the Formula 1 challenge at Sunderland University.

Sixth Form students have recently returned from a careers event at Sunderland University aimed at those studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

"STEM at Sunderland' gave students an opportunity to see some of the possible career paths available to them. There were lots of different activities available, which included an engineering task to build a helicopter out of K'nex, controlling a robot using simple commands and a challenge to see which team could change a Formula 1 wheel in the fastest time.

This was an ideal learning opportunity to see STEM subjects in a real life context and to understand how they complement each other.
