A group of 45 students were recently given the unique opportunity to take part in a training session at St George’s Park, the home of the England Football Team. Students were nominated for a place as a reward for their hard work and dedication to the Academy.

The students from Years 7, 8, 10 and 11 were joined by Sixth Form Sports Studies students and Academy Footballers in the action-packed trip which included eating lunch in the players private dining room, training and playing on the indoor 4G Wembley replica pitch and on the outdoor 5-a-side pitch, and having a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the amazing facilities on offer to professional football players. Students were even allowed to use the official players changing rooms and facilities and enjoyed a penalty shootout!

When asked for their views, Year 11 student Josh R said, “This was an amazing day and one which money can’t buy”, whilst Sixth Form student, Brandon C, who aspires to a career in sports photography said, “It was an experience that I will never forget.”

In addition to the football, the group were also introduced to ‘Powerchair Football’, which left them all in awe of the skill and professionalism that is evident in disability sport. This was reflected in the words of the team coach who said, “King James students were the most respectful students that had ever taken part in an activity like this and they are to be commended.”

English Teacher, Mrs Read, who organised the trip said, “It was a privilege to see our students embrace the chance to experience and participate in a unique opportunity such as this. I hope it is something we can do again.”
