This month, eight of our Sixth Formers, accompanied by Mr Longstaff and three Junior Leaders, will be travelling to Glastonbury to working as part of the 30,000-strong volunteer team at the iconic Glastonbury Festival 2016.

This trip is the third in what has now become a much-anticipated Year 13 privelege. Mr Longstaff, our Assistant Head Teacher, organised the first trip in 2013 as a work experience opportunity and festival organisers were so impressed by the conduct of our student team, it has now become an annual event. Each year, as the number of applicants for places grows, the job of selecting the team becomes increasingly difficult for Mr Longstaff. "The trip involves long hours and the work is very physical," he said, "but it is a fantastic experience and one which really helps to prepare our Sixth Formers for University or work. Students are awarded a place based on attendance, attitude to work, dedication and achievement in Sixth Form."

The 2016 team, some of whom are pictured here, will be part of the Glastonbury Recycling Crew, clearing the zone in front of the famous Pyramid Stage. They will work for six hours each morning, and in return for the 6.00am starts, they will get to enjoy the amazing line-up, camping in "crew-only' areas, crew meals and uniform, plus festival memorabilia, all for free. Public tickets cost £230 this year, but as usual, all sold out within minutes so our students are lucky indeed.

Aside from enjoying live music from Muse, Adele, Coldplay, Jess Glynne, ELO and Madness, plus many more world famous artists, the team can also look forward to entertainment from the best performers in dance and theatre, artwork from across the globe, international cuisine in the many temporary cafes and restaurants, and trying everything from circus skills to basket weaving!
